The Construction & Design Services is a commercial wing of the UP Jal Nigam and was set up in 1989 to diversify the activities of the Parent Organisation (the UP Jal Nigam) in the fields of Consultancy Services, Project Management, Land Development & Construction of buildings of all types and magnitude, Interior Designing and Furnishing, Land Soaping, Fire Protection, Air Conditioning etc., in addition to our traditional fields of Environmental Engineering viz., Water supply Sewerage including Sewage Treatment and Effluent Treatment for Industrial Units, River Pollution Abatement etc.The Construction & Design Services started in 1989-90 with just three works costing Rs. 118.86 lakhs and a meager capital of Rs. 20.00 Lakhs provided by the parent organisation on loan basis.

The wing soon became self supporting and profit earning and has been making strides since very inception through efficient human resource management, strict quality control, speedy and cost effective construction achieved through adoption of latest technology Consequently the Government of Uttar Pradesh named the Construction & Design Services as the "Approved Construction Agency" vide G.O.No. 240 1/9-3-91-249-C/91, dated 6th June 1991. |

The most efficient, energetic and experienced engineers and staff are drawn from the parent department in this wing. This wing is proud of every rank and file of our manpower who have been toiling day and night to give their best in the services of the nation. There is a sense of belonging and ownership in the engineers and staff who work with dedication and team spirit in a congenial atmosphere of healthy industrial relations. |

| Achievements |

| This wing started with a meager turnover of Rs.99 Iakhs in 1989-90 which soared high to Rs. 39460.42 lakhs in the year 2006-07, thus achieving a growth of 260 times during the last 18 years. Since inception Construction & Design Services has completed 5286 schemes costing Rs. 1635.79 crores and 1937 scheme costing Rs. 2088.99 crores are in different stages of completion. |

| Modus Operandi |

The execution of works is done departmentally by field units which are manned by the most efficient, energetic and experienced engineers. The contractor or the middleman is eliminated which ensures strict quality control and economy in construction. The field units are equipped with adequate powers to take on the spot decision with regard to procurement of materials and execution of works which accelerates the pace of work. |

| Organisational Structure |

The Construction & Design Services wing is headed by Director, who is a Chief Engineer of the U P JaI Nigam. There are 2 Chief General Managers, 11 General Managers and 45 Project Managers & 854 Employees. The field units are located at all important works. At present 37 field units are located in different parts of Uttar Pradesh, 2 field units in the state of Uttarakhand and 1 each in the state of Maharastra, Jammu(J&K), Jharkhand & Gujrat. |
